Photojournalists and Elections

Collage created with "Instantane" by Nicole Audet 10/21/24

By making this collage, my goal was to showcase the connection between photojournalists and elections. I took images from the debate and the storming of the capital, as well as photos of both Kamala Harris and Donald Trump. I also created two AI photos to showcase how biases may be foreseen in photographs and added a sign to show my own possible bias within this assignment.

The top left and bottom left photographs show the storming of the capital that occurred on January 6th, 2021. This was a widely covered event by many journalists and news reporters. This was a Republican-dominated event.

The middle left and bottom middle showcase the last debate held on September 10th, 2024. This had both Republican and democratic visitors. This was a publicized event that was shown on TV and reported throughout the country.

The top middle and top right are the two images I created with Leonardo AI. These images display biases that may be seen in photographs. They may not always be obvious; biases may only be subtle. It can be hard to recognize personal biases, especially when it comes to politics. Photojournalists need to recognize their own biases before covering any sort of media.

The middle and middle right shows the two most popular presidential candidates for the 2024 election. This is used for insight and education. We see their faces everywhere. These types of pictures are commonly used for coverage that includes information specific to either Harris or Trump.

The bottom right is my input showing my personal bias. As a democrat, I wanted to be sure that I addressed my own biases while doing this project. I did my best to put my opinion to the side but added an obvious picture to make my bias clear in case it did show throughout the assignment.
